A Mother's Day Reflection 2025: Love, Loss, and Faith
2 min read
Yesterday was Mother’s Day and I found it hard to write. It’s been 15 months since the loss of my son and I wrote a similar post on For God’s Glory Alone Ministry website last year, so I thought I would give a brief update here.
I often think of my mother, who passed away seventeen years ago. Her sayings, like “Dress for the Lord and act like a lady” and “This too shall pass,” still guide me. She faced immense loss, burying two children, yet taught me to face each day with faith: “Get up, wash your face, make your bed, and thank God for another day.”
As a mother, I’ve learned that while we strive to teach our children right from wrong, the greatest gift is unconditional love.
Train a child in the way they should go, and when they are old, they will not depart from it.
You will have no regrets if you hug your children more, listen more attentively, and try to not have criticism overshadow your affection. I urge you to embrace your children with love, to speak words that are true, kind, and necessary, and to show the grace that God has shown to you. Love them fiercely, hug them tightly, and trust the rest to Him.
As 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 teaches, love is patient, kind, and persevering.
This Mother’s Day, I honor my son’s memory, celebrate my beautiful daughter, and my granddaughters and three amazing great-grands, and I give thanks for my mother’s legacy of faith. May we all find strength through faith and the enduring power of love.
